About Wooloowin:

The residential suburb of Wooloowin is 6 km north of the CBD (central business district). It is named after a local Indigenous Australian word for “pigeon”.

Lying on Lutwyche Road, Wooloowin comprises the former suburb of Kalinga, north of Rose Street and ends at Kedron Brook. The residential district of Kalinga is mostly flat, consisting of different types of dwellings including apartment blocks and houses as well as old-style Queenslander houses. Numerous state government institutions call Wooloowin home, including the headquarters of the State Emergency Services.



Two train stations, located at Eagle Junction and Wooloowin, are located within the suburb. People can also go around the suburb by buses operated by the Brisbane City Council.



Wooloowin features numerous parks including Brook Road Park, Emma Street Park, Henry Street Park, Shaw Park and Melrose Park. Shaw Park is used by several men and women’s sports teams including Northern Suburbs District Cricket Club and Wilston North’s Junior Cricket Club.

The suburb has many heritage-listed sites: the former Albion Fire Station, Holy Cross Laundry, Kalinga Park, Kedron Lounge and the old Brisbane City Council Tramways Substation No. 8.

As for movie theatres, the nearest are Balmoral Cineplex in Bulimba, Palace Centro Cinemas in Fortitude Valley and South Bank Cineplex in South Brisbane.



Kedron State High School and Wooloowin Primary School are located within Wooloowin. There are more schools in neighbouring suburbs including Eagle Junction Primary School and Clayfield College in Clayfield, Kedron Primary School and Padua Primary School in Kedron, and more. Child care facilities include Kedron Park Rd Child & Development Educational Care Centre, Wooloowin Community Limited Hours Childcare Centre and Holycross Outside School Hours Care Program.
